I found what I believe is a "dirt dobber" nest on the inside of a barn. At least that is what we called them growing up - please feel to shout out a correction.
The colors were great and they looked like flutes (or another kind of instrument?). Visit Murrieta 365 for more great SOOC shots.
Have a blessed Sunday!

How interesting. I don't think I've ever seen something like that before. Nice shot.
ReplyDeleteWe always called them mud dobbers.. so funny that we have similar names.. beautiful capture of nature!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what we called them, too! I remember spraying them w/ all kind of stuff just messing around!
ReplyDeleteI think I have seen this before but just don't know the name. Happy Sunday!

So strange and fascinating! I have never seen anything like this before! They remind me of wasp nests!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, those nest certainly are different from any we have around here. Barn swallows make a mud nest, too. Maybe they're related.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! lt looks like fibre art. Really amazing with the varied colors.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing that they are made with different materials to make the shades so contrasting!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up we called them mud dobbers. I have never seen so many in a row like that. What a great find!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's so cool; looks like pan pipes!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! How did they make that in different colors?
ReplyDeleteinteresting with different colors and structures
ReplyDeleteWow! This is so cool! Fantastic shot!
ReplyDeleteWow, those are some interesting wasps nests... yes, I had to google it ;) Evidently we have some boring wasps here where I live.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shot!
The color variation is surprising.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool shot...at first I thought it was yarn or a tapestry...and the colors are soft and yummy!
ReplyDeleteoh wow! so much texture from the flutes, fabulous image, happy sunday!
ReplyDeleteWas it active? If so you are one brave girl! It's so amazing how they are different colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone - it was fun find! It was not active that I know of, though we did find a large hornet's nest that was VERY active. I stayed away from that part of the barn!
ReplyDeleteThis barn sits on a dirt road and there is a mixture of orange/red clay, sand and then a mixture of sand and gravel to help aleviate sliding when the clay gets wet on the hill. Nothing better than slippin' and slidin' down a dirt road! :)
I am so grateful for all of the memories and look forward to many more! :)
Growing up in the bayou country of East Texas we always had lots of dirt "daubers." As a kid I thought they were wasps. I guess they bite instead of sting. I remember my mother put all my dolls in an old chest in an old house that was still standing out in the pasture and the daubers completely sealed it up with their daubs of mud.
