My friend and mentor Steve taught me this technique. Set your f stop to 22 and focus on the sun through a tree branch or other object. The result is a really neat burst of sunlight! Please check out his blog and flickr page - you will not be disappointed!
Pretty cool, huh? The blue sky was really vivid, so I am using this as my Midweek Blues submission.
Hope you are having a great week!

I'm writing that down - I love this sunburst!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I love using that technique too.
ReplyDeletethat's really pretty
ReplyDeleteI love the bit of pink in the burst
Wow that sunburst is amazing. Stunning shot!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard this before, and cannot wait to try it. Thank you for sharing this. Your photograph is just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I always seem to get a better blue sky when the sun is behind me, but you got a gorgeous blue while looking into the sun!
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful. This reminds me of the first time I tried to meter off of the sun for a silhouette--I literally sun blinded myself!
ReplyDeleteA perfect sun flare!
What a gorgeous starburst!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try that! So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, I can't wait to try it. That is so cool!
ReplyDeleteYes it is! And we finally have the sun back for a while. I'm going to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteWow...the rays of light are stunning...what a great image Kim!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful capture! Thanks for the tip too. One question...did you also edit this shot or is this SOOC?
ReplyDeleteThank you guys!
ReplyDelete@CM - yes, I used Pioneer Woman's sharpen and define and boost action to zoom up the color. That is all that I did to the photo, other than cropping. :)
And just so you know - the actions enhanced everything but the sunburst - that is true camera action that anyone can do!
ReplyDeleteLike a bright starburst of hope in the sky! Beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteGreat burst set against that beautiful blue!
ReplyDeleteAwesome starburst!!! And I love the little spec of rainbow, too! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful, and I am so jealous - I cannot do this! I've tried the f/22 setting and I just can't get it right. But, you've inspired me to keep trying.
ReplyDeleteI must try this, I usually go for around f2, never tried this.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great tip. I'm bookmarking your post so that I can link back to it if I post a picture of my sunburst. The only problem at this time of year is that the sun hasn't been around much recently here in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim
