These stables have been such a big part of my life. Growing up we played in them; hide and seek, made them our clubhouses, and whatever else tickled our fancy while the horses or donkey were out. I can remember my grandfather milking the cow in those stables and drinking the warm milk from a cup fresh out of the stainless steel bucket when he brought it in the house. There is nothing better than warm milk on a cold morning in a house heated only by a wood stove!
These stables are still standing and are in good shape. My daddy is unsure of their age, but he is in his mid 60s and they have been there since he was a child.
I added a texture just for kicks. I like "old" things better with added texture. That is, unless you are shooting HDR and my camera is not equipped for that. Hopefully Santa will bring me a new one! For a great HDR shot of these stables, please check out my friend and mentor Steve's blog. He has a wide-angled lens and got the barns in the shot too. His photos are PHENOMENAL! **SIGH** He and his wife are such great people and I am so lucky to have them in my life!

beautiful and I love the added texture.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, isn't it? That we played in barns and chicken coops and graneries and managed to survive the germs we encountered. I do love the photographs which remind me so much of Grandpa's place.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim!!!
ReplyDeletehow wonderful they are still standing and they look so great, I love the textures here.
ReplyDeleteWow...amazing processing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonder any of us made it to adulthood with out plug protectors and being outside all day long playing in the sunshine... lol. Lovely structures filled with memories.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! What kind of camera is on your list for Santa?
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful memories these barns bring to you. Love the added texture.
ReplyDeleteI do like the texture on that shot. Great!
ReplyDeleteLove the texture you used on this. Beautiful photograph and work on it!
ReplyDeleteVery cool, very cool! You really get some great shots there on that farm... love the texture, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining
This post reminded me so much of the OLD chicken coop converted to playhouse at my folks farm. Now there's a NEW old chicken coop and an even NEWER one still in use. lol
ReplyDeleteCool indeed! I love that you can share some stories with the photos.
ReplyDeleteOld Barns
I love these, either one is really nice but sure do like the texture added in the second...I sure can see how you used them for different things as a kid....however, if I were freezing to death, I would not want warm milk! I bet you think I am nuts...:-) I guess I am...but none of us could ever drink it, but the cats sure loved it.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks for visiting my Time Stand Still post...I don't have a barn posted at this blog I am linked to right now.
I just love OLD BOARDS...built into anything.
ReplyDeleteOld barns are so neat anyway, but they are even better when they come with a story! :)
ReplyDeleteI played in an old barn as a kid too and have very warm memories of it so I very much enjoyed your memories. I like how you added texture to the photo! I ought to try that. :)
ReplyDeleteHey!! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for your sweet words!!! Where in the South are you?? Just curious! We "Southern Belles" have to stick together!
ReplyDeleteYour work is breathtaking!!! I love old barns too. And I love the texture that you added. Do you make your own or purchase them? I'm having some issues with getting mine loaded into PS so that I CAN learn how to use them. Never enough time to do all that I need to!
Hope y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I'll be back to visit!
Hugs!
Susan
The second picture is really nice ! The processing gives it the right mood ! Thanks for dropping by !
ReplyDeleteI love the texture effect on photographs. But, then again, I love old stuff!! Really artistic pics of something that otherwise might seem ordinary.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful little bit of your history. :0) It made me think of the old barn at my aunt's I used to play in. :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone - these stables are such a special part of my childhood. We never thought about hygiene back then, and I guess its a good thing! I am so the opposite with my kids...now that is food for thought!
ReplyDeleteThey both are lovely SS, but my favorite is the second one, I love the effect.
ReplyDeleteNice place to grow up around. Dirty or not.
Gorgeous photo and great edit!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen buildings like this before but did not know their use. Learn something new everyday when you blog.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post.
Love your stables shots!
